551. Hangzhou | Longjing Tea Village

While we were in China, we visited a Longjing ("Dragon Well") green tea plantation in Hangzhou. I've always loved green tea and drink it every day. I started drinking it for the potential health benefits but now it has become so normal to me that I drink it more than water. It was raining a lot when we came here (you can see the drops coming down in the photo below)..so we didn't walk around the village that much or go up into the fields unfortunately. It was beautiful there.



From what I know, Longjing green tea is amongst the best green tea in the world. Here it's all organic and freshly picked. The leaves are actual whole leaves as well (unlike the crushed leaves in tea bags or stores here) as you can see:


The tea leaves are edible on their own too. They did a long presentation for us then we all had the opportunity to buy some. I bought 1kg which was about $300 and my mom bought some as well. We got the "First Grade" which is picked from the first harvest..so it is the best quality and the leaves are the largest I think. At first I thought it was really expensive and was hesitant to buy so much at a time..but I figured since I drink it so much, I should drink the quality kind. & at least this would force me to drink it a lot..which worked because now I drink at least 5 cups a day.

I need to find a large opaque container now to store the huge bag in the fridge. Since it's organic (and I have so much of it) it has to be in a cooler temperature and not be exposed to air or light as much as possible to keep its quality. Then I'd need a smaller container for my daily use to refill it into..maybe enough for a month. Every time when the large container has to be opened (to refill the smaller container) it has to be out of the fridge for a day first to make sure it gets down to room temperature before it can be opened and exposed to air. Such a process lol.

I hope my supply will last me until my next trip to China so that I can restock and not have to buy the (crushed leaves) type from here again.
