574. Recent Life & Renovations | Part 8

leftbanked renovations kitchen
My whole renovations project is finally nearing completion!! Well all the construction work is nearly done but I still have to finish purchasing a bunch of furniture and set up one more corner of my place (the corner where all my stuff is currently sitting in bags and boxes). I'm sooooo happy with how the kitchen turned out. In the photo above is how it currently looks at the moment. There are going to be cabinet doors above the fridge as well, but they will put those in sometime this week (hopefully).

I really love my gold faucet. & apron sink. & range. & all the cabinet and drawer door handles. & counter tops. & the backsplash! Basically I am in love with the entire kitchen lol. But mostly the faucet and sink. It wasn't easy but I'm so happy I eventually managed to find them both and I'm so glad that I ended up getting the gold faucet. It was quite expensive and I spent some time thinking about whether or not it would be worth it...but in the end I decided to just get it because it was what I wanted from the beginning, and I knew I would've probably regretted it if I didn't go for the gold.

This whole renovations project has been/is so much fun for me. I kind of want to be an interior designer now...the best part is seeing everything come together in the end. But I don't know if I would enjoy designing places for other people as much, because then I would end up wanting to live there myself hahah. Maybe someday my dream of having my own boutique hotel will come true, so I can design each room in a different way.

The past few weeks have been so busy for me. I need to find time now to finish the rest of my furniture shopping..then I will post more photos of my place fully completed!

Leftbanked kitchen
The part around the sink is not done yet (obviously) and there is some tape around my range which I have to find a way to clean off. Something I realized I should've done was take pictures of the "before" because it was extremely different! Before my kitchen was just like a half kitchen. & it didn't look nice at all so I never took pictures of it lol. Same with my washroom. But from now on you'll probably be seeing my newly renovated ones a lot.

leftbanked renovations
I bought some new towels yesterday. I love the colour scheme of my place..it definitely matches with all my stuff as well. All blue (navy and light blue), grey, gold, and white marble.

My washroom I decided before to do a different look from the kitchen - the cabinets are dark brown. Here you can see in the photo below that the faucet is a very dark brown. Originally I wanted a gold faucet here as well but I couldn't find a nice one, so I went with this instead then had the matching set for the shower. My washroom is going to be more traditional/old style and opposite from the modern style of the rest of my place. I have some ideas on how to decorate it, just hope I'll be able to find all the pieces I'm thinking of getting. I've posted some photos of the washroom before but will post more once I finish furnishing it.

When it was still in progress....

Now time for some other random photos taken from the past couple weeks:

Toronto CN Tower
Pizzeria Libretto University Street
Dinner with my mom and sister at Pizzeria Libretto

Pizzeria Libretto calamari
I love the calamari here!

Pizzeria Libretto Toronto
We first ordered the margherita pizza and salami pizza. The margherita was really good. I would definitely order this again next time. The salami we didn't like (actually only my mom and sister tasted it..I was too into the margherita one to even try that one hahha) and they said it was very salty. So we ended up switching it for an eggplant one. I don't like eggplant but my mom and sister really loved that one.

Pizzeria Libretto desserts
For dessert we had the Torta Caprese and a chocolate fudge ice cream. We found them way too sweet and filling. I was excited to get the Torta Caprese since I had it for the first time when I visited Capri (exactly a year ago this week actually) and really loved it. But this one I didn't really like =\

leftbanked Hennessy
Jurassic Park Toronto
I guess when the Raptors are playing, this is called "Jurassic Park". I don't follow basketball actually but I hope our team does well this season. I like hockey though but unfortunately tonight, we got eliminated :( I realized in the recent couple of years, all our major sports teams (hockey, basketball and baseball) seem to have gotten a LOT more fans. I like the atmosphere in the city during sports seasons.

Cider House Toronto
Cider House - a bar in Roncesvalles owned by a friend of a friend of mine. We went there once night a few weeks ago..quite a far distance from places I usually go. I loved their schnitzel!

EPIC Fairmont Royal York Toronto
If you've been following me for awhile then you will know how often I go to the Library Bar in the Fairmont Royal York (like 3-4 times a week?! lol) Recently we started going to their main restaurant called EPIC instead because we fell in love with their chicken sandwich. I'm not really a sandwich type of person actually but this sandwich is so good I could literally have it every day. As you can see, all four of us ordered it that time lol. It really is that delicious!

We also know the chef now. He gave us this free cheesecake one day:

Toronto Bay and King
Maman Toronto
This is Maman, a French style bakery/cafe that's also another one of my favourite places! This place is located literally a 5 minute walk from me yet I've only come for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I love the interior decor and their food is really good.

Maman Toronto cakes

My friend and I came with our laptops to work for a few hours one day. I really love their vegetable lasagna. It might not look that good in the photo but it's amazing.

Hokkaido Santouka
Hokkaido Santouka desserts
Hokkaido Santouka...another new favourite place!

Toronto Harbourfront
I've been walking my dog to the harbourfront more these days because the weather is finally getting warmer!

573. Recent Life

Givenchy antigona light blue
This "recent life" post actually isn't the most recent..I am so behind on my blog still. Trying to use this weekend once again to catch up. It's the Easter long weekend. Since I don't work a normal 9-5, Monday-Friday job...weekends don't make much of a difference to me lol. I actually don't like weekends/holidays since a lot of places are closed. But my workload is slightly less on weekends and holidays, so at least I have time to catch up on other things these few days.

The most important thing I have to force myself to do this week is also the thing I hate to do the most out of the entire year....income taxes. It sucks having to pay such a large amount of cash all at one time. I am never prepared for it. Then I think about how many vacations I could've gone on instead for that amount, or currently..how many items from the Jeff Koons x Louis Vuitton collection I could've bought instead!! My favourite is the Rubens Keepall. I actually wanted to get the Mona Lisa Silk Square to have framed and put in my washroom (as the colours match my new washroom) but unfortunately, the wall in my washroom isn't large enough for it. I'm so disappointed. & I don't want to hang it in the main area of my place because the colours won't match at all (plus I want a different painting for that area). I really love Jeff Koons so I really want something from this collection though....

So here is an update on my renovations. If you follow me on Instagram you can see an updated pic of the kitchen. As they installed the other cabinets and pantry now. All that's missing still is the counter top, backsplash, sink, faucet, a few cabinet doors...then finally done! & of course some minor touch ups. I'm super excited to see how the kitchen will look in the end. It's going to be so beautiful. I can't believe it is now 2 months, 1 week and counting since I began this whole renovations project. Oh and after the contractors are all done...I still have to finish furniture shopping.

Greenhouse cookbook
Greenhouse couldn't have released their new cookbook at a better time! Ok, a better time may have been closer to when my kitchen is fully complete lol but still....this place is my favourite for cold-pressed juices and the most amazing coconut water. They just released this cookbook a couple weeks ago and I went to buy it immediately. I'm so excited to start cooking everything when I finally can.

Brooks Brothers Toronto
At a Brooks Brothers event! I was my friend's +1. It was my first time in this store..their menswear is pretty nice and very preppy. I really liked the store interiors as well. They had a huge selection of ties in every shade. I think if I was a man, I'd definitely collect ties.

Earls Caesar salad
On another day, my friend and I went restaurant-hopping with our laptops, so that we spent the whole day working and eating lol. This was at Earls. We spent a few hours here. It was nice. As I work "from home", I actually rarely work at home. I find it hard to fully concentrate so I'm usually at a Starbucks or some coffee shop, or my own lobby. I would like to do it at restaurants more often..Earls has a nice atmosphere for it.

Dundas Square Toronto
Magazines
These are all the magazines I have to catch up on!! Actually, since the time I've taken this photo there has been a few more that arrived. I have subscriptions to all these magazines and because of my renovations (the few weeks I couldn't live here), I've gotten behind on reading them. & now that I'm so behind it's pretty difficult to catch up.

Earls Salmon
On another night at Earls (again), I ordered the salmon. It was soooo good. I want to go back for it.

Hennessy Pomeranian
My new curtains arrived!! As you can see, Hennessy really loves them. I really love them as well. They're all white with a bit of sheen. Once my place is fully fully completed, I will post photos of everything altogether.

Hokkaido Santouka
green tea mochi
At Hokkaido Santouka! My new favourite Japanese/ramen place. I went here for dinner with my friend one night then a few days later went again with my family. I have a pretty obsessive personality lol. If I discover something I like, I would have a lot of it or go very often to it as you can probably tell...since I always seem to post the same places in every post!

572. Birthday Weekend

leftbanked 1 King West
It's Sunday evening right now as I'm making this post. Today I decided to stay in all day for the first time since forever as I had a lot of work and home stuff to take care of. I am happy to say it was a very productive day, which means I have time to blog again!

The weather is finally getting warmer. Yesterday was a nice and sunny day. I went for a long one hour walk with Hennessy by the harbourfront. Tonight, after I finished all my work, I took him out again at midnight for an hour again because the weather was so perfect. I love where I live. I live in the financial district so during the day, it's extremely busy while at night and on weekends..it's the complete opposite. I love going for late night dog walks (like past midnight) when the streets are completely empty and deserted..and I'm surrounded by nothing but skyscrapers. Also I love walking around this area the most because the sidewalks are very wide and clean (which is important if you're walking a dog who likes to sniff and/or eat anything on the ground). If it was anywhere else I wouldn't feel safe going out so late at night by myself (and a non-threatening Pomeranian) so another good thing about the financial district is that there's a lot of security and cop cars patrolling..so I feel safe to go out alone even in the middle of the night lol.

This is a couple weeks overdue, but here are some photos from my birthday weekend! It was an amazing week. I didn't take photos of EVERYTHING I did for my birthday..but here is most of it:

Elm Tree Cafe salmon
This wasn't exactly part of my birthday celebration..I think it was a few days before it. My friend & I went for dinner at The Elm Tree Restaurant. I can't believe it was only my first time there. The food was really really good. I LOVED their homemade hummus (I didn't take a pic of it) and the salmon with leek risotto was amazing.

Elm Tree Cafe cheesecake
For dessert I ordered a Nutella cheesecake. I actually don't like cheesecake that much. This was my first time ordering it because I couldn't choose anything else from their dessert menu...and I like Nutella, so I went with this. It was good but too filling and sweet for me.

Royal York Hotel
Library Bar
In the evening my friend (who lives in the same building as me) and I went to the Royal York Hotel's Library Bar as usual. I know I post about this place so often! lol. I probably mentioned before but we mainly go here since it's directly connected to our building so we don't have to walk outdoors to get here....so now the weather is warmer I'm sure you'll see us going to other places more hahah.

CN Tower Toronto
Brookfield Place
negroni
On the Friday (of my birthday weekend), I sat at my lobby bar to do a bit of work before going out for the night. Suddenly the bartender gives me this and goes: "here try this". It was a Negroni. I never heard of this drink before that night. I took a few sips and found it way too strong for me. I actually have an extremely low alcohol tolerance..especially now since I haven't drank in forever. So I just let it sit until I had to leave to start getting ready for the night...then I ended up chugging it lol. The melted ice watered it down a bit. I then had to "recover" from it for about an hour before going to Pravda!

Pravda Toronto
If you've been following my blog for many many years, you might know that Pravda used to be my absolute favourite place. It's a vodka bar/lounge/club. I hadn't been there in years so I wanted to go again for my birthday. A lot has changed since I last went and unfortunately I didn't find it as good as it used to be...it's still a pretty cool place but I think there's too much competition now with other new places in the city.

Pravda martini
Royal York Hotel Afternoon Tea
The next morning we had an afternoon tea booked at the Royal York Hotel/Library Bar again. I accidentally slept in but we ended up being only 15 minutes late lol. It was a lot of fun and the sandwiches and scones were delicious!

This was my outfit for the afternoon tea. These photos were taken in my building..this is over the main entrance, in front of our 2nd floor ballroom. I don't know why its taken me 8 years of living here to realize this is a very beautiful photo spot lol. Will definitely dress up again and do more photos here sometime!

Brassaii

Cactus Club bellinis
Then that night, drinks and dinner at Brassaii (also a place I used to go a lot but haven't been since forever) then more drinks at Cactus Club! The next day was my actual birthday. I didn't take any photos that day..it was a more relaxing day though. In the morning I went for tea with a friend at Shangri-La Hotel (regular tea..not afternoon tea again) then met my sister for a movie and dinner.
