786. Morocco Part 13 | Ceramics and Rug Shopping

Fes is the capital of arts and culture in Morocco, and it's easy to see why. I really love their style of decor here. It's all very colourful, a bit whimsical and primarily handmade. Even the buildings in the medina and little alleyways have a lot of paintings.

My favourite souvenirs from here are the ceramics. The rugs are also very beautiful. If I was in the market for one I would definitely want to get it here. I prefer their style to Persian rugs which I don't really like to be honest. The Moroccan ones are more modern (but timeless) with more colours and images.

We visited this rug store set inside a huge riad. Their rooms were piled up with rugs of all sizes. I think there must have been tens of thousands. The entire riad was covered in mosaics. It was all very beautiful and detailed.

We also visited this ceramics factory. This man is preparing the clay.

Every piece of the mosaics are made by hand. They are used for the tables behind or walls and floors. I can't imagine how many hours are spent to make one table (or to cover an entire riad).

In the end, we ended up buying these (+ 1 other thing not shown in the picture). It took me quite a long time to choose and narrow down what I wanted, and also to haggle down the price lol. The tajine is for cooking with and a gift for my mom. It's pretty heavy. I wonder why tajines are not more popular worldwide. I really love them. The factory shipped everything back to Toronto for us as there's no way we could lug these around in our suitcases lol.

638. Recent Life

Every time when I make a "recent life" post I either feel like typing a lot/getting somewhat personal, or having nothing to write at all. Tonight it's the latter. This is just for the sake of having some text here. Sometimes I wish I could go back to how my blog was a few years ago when I was more comfortable writing about every detail of my life lol.
So I've been making more of an effort to not have all my posts consist strictly of food photos. I think I'm getting better at it..slowly.


Warmer weather = more and longer dog walks! & more colours.

My sister gave me this as one of my Christmas gifts a few months ago and I only got around to reading it this past weekend (prior to that I spent a lot of time catching up on my huuuuge stack of magazines which I was really behind on. I have that more under control now). This is the first fiction book I've read in a really long time. Several years ago I no longer had any interest in fiction books since I didn't have much time to read for leisure and I felt they were a waste of time. I usually just read non-fiction books and magazines if they contribute something to my knowledge/life but reading this provided some much needed stress relief. It's a pretty entertaining book and I can relate to some Chinese cultural things they talk about so that makes it even more interesting for me. I even went to buy the second one in the series today.


Starting to get back into cooking again.



The gym in my building is finally, finally open again!! It was under renovations for several months. It is a lot bigger than it used to be and there are more machines now. I thought it would take me awhile to get back into the routine of going but so far so good. I've been going every other day or every two days.
I took this photo above using self timer on my phone. After many attempts. I really hope they weren't watching me on the security cameras..I was setting it then running back to get in position, quickly doing a downward dog in time for the snap while trying to have a perfect form. All while hoping nobody would walk by and see hahah.


Oh and here are my "gym sandals" ;)




Dinner at Gyu-Kaku. Normally I don't like these places where you have to "cook your own food". But I really enjoyed this and their meats were all delicious!



I was excited to see taiyaki on the menu but unfortunately it didn't taste that good. So I was inspired to go and get my own....

I discovered this H Mart opened in downtown and within walking distance to my place. It's a Korean grocery store and they sell a lot of different Asian foods. I came in search of ice cream which I successfully found..and also found a lot of other things I wanted to buy and try. Many Asian foods and snacks that I used to eat when I was younger. I felt so nostalgic lol. I will definitely be going back a lot more.

565. Renovations | Part 4

I'm currently sitting at the lobby bar of my building again as I update this. I came down again today to check on my renovations. My floors and walls are finally done now and they're currently working on my washroom. So this morning, I went with my contractor around to a few stores to pick up my washroom, kitchen backsplash tiles, etc and choose my countertops again..as well as look at more faucets. It was a productive morning. Now we came back to my building and I'm sitting at the lobby bar all day working while they continue on with my washroom.

The past few days I've made quite a bit of progress on my shopping. I ordered a few pieces of furniture and got all my appliances (except the microwave) ordered as well. All my things are coming at different times over the next few weeks. Longest being my rug so far - 6 week wait!! This whole renovations project is really testing my patience lol. My bed should be arriving sometime next week so after that I'll be able to partially move back in!


Just had this chicken caesar salad..now having sweet potato fries. I always eat so much while I'm sitting here lol.

My floors are done now! The baseboard under the window isn't painted over yet so it doesn't look that nice right now. My walls look so purplish in pictures..

Ordering my new couch!! I'm so excited to get it! It's a pretty unique design and consists of both suede and leather elements. I loved how they have so many colour options. Should be arriving in about 3 weeks.





My rug I ordered from Martin Daniel. They have the coolest rugs! In so many different crazy styles and colours. Oh & my couch was from Selene Furniture. We've been to countless different stores now and purchased from several..the experience here was the best so far. The owner was so nice and patient and the service so far has been amazing. I highly recommend them.

I looooved these rugs..in person, the colours look really beautiful. Some of the larger ones were like degrade colours. I love the blues. But unfortunately to order these it would take 3 months (& they're also super expensive)
