822. Chiang Mai Part 3 | Snapshots

So now we are down to our last few days in Chiang Mai. We will leave later this week and have a roadtrip planned with our driver to visit Chiang Rai (just in time as COVID restrictions have recently been lifted), Lampang, Sukhothai, Ayutthaya then back to Bangkok where we will stay for about a month again. I'm most excited for Sukhothai and Ayutthaya..I love UNESCO historical places.

There was also a pond with the largest koi fish I've ever seen! They had some fish food there so we could feed the fish as well (fish feeding is a very popular activity around Thailand I noticed)

We first learned this (the hard way) in Koh Samui that ants are literally everywhere in Thailand and if you leave something out for even half an hour, this happens (look closely)! In Koh Samui, I would buy dog treats to give to street dogs. We stayed in a house and one night I left a bag open..the following morning the bag was FULL of ants with a huge line of them coming and going. It was so disgusting.

I think this is a popular night market here in Chiang Mai. Unfortunately now it looks like this (thanks to COVID). We have not been able to experience any night markets here yet which is a shame as I think Chiang Mai usually has a lot.

Origins by Lewis Dartnell. It's super interesting and I'm enjoying it a lot so far. I would recommend if you like Sapiens/Homo Deus as well. It talks about how the physical earth shaped our history and how we live; how humans evolved and society came to be the way it is today.

796. Bangkok Part 2 | Quarantine Update

We are already a third of the way through quarantine! I can't believe the time is actually going by pretty fast. I'm enjoying the relaxation and routine. I find our days structured around meal times - wake up at 9am when the breakfast arrives. Then have a few hours to work until 1:30pm when lunch arrives. Then work some more, do a work out (bike & yoga), read, etc until dinner at 7:30pm. Take a bath, work and read some more until sleep. One of my "goals" this quarantine was to get my taxes done but I always procrastinate on doing them. I must force myself to before we're out, otherwise it will be much harder for me.

This morning we had our first PCR test here. We must do one on the 6th day and then another on the 13th day. If this one comes back negative, we will be allowed out to the pool terrace for a limited time each day. If the second one comes back negative, we will be done the quarantine.

We went to this area to get our test done and it was SOOO hot and humid. We were only out for less than 10 minutes. I didn't know before just how hot Thailand is all the time. Every day it's like 34 degrees but the "real feel" is 42. I can't imagine how hard it is for the workers having to wear full PPE in this heat but I guess they are used to it. This PCR test was quite painful.

Some more of the meals. We noticed how everything was really good the first few days but then the quality seemed to have deteriorated (with much more simple/boring meals and a few were too spicy for me). But now it's starting to become better again. I wonder if it's because there's alternating chefs - usually the food in the beginning of the week are better.

Yesterday I finished this one. I really loved it! It is quite a lengthy book but I read through most of it in one day because I couldn't put it down. It took me awhile to get into (I didn't really like the structure of the book - it jumps back and forth between years) but halfway through I started to really enjoy it. It is pretty depressing since it's set in the war time though.

789. Morocco Part 16 | Snapshots of Rabat + Modern Art Museum

Last week we visited Rabat's Museum of Modern & Comtemporary Art. It looked really cool from the outside but in reality, there were only 2 exhibitions inside and they were all similar paintings. I still enjoyed it though and for a few dollars' admission per person, I can't say it was a rip off.

A quick update to my previous post on GME: I have since sold *most* of my shares and managed to make a pretty good profit from it all. I will keep the rest as I do believe in the company's future prospects and the big squeeze. Of course I didn't manage to sell at the peak ($483)..although I forced myself to gradually trim my position on the way down (which I am grateful for now lol) as I didn't want to be a bagholder. Now it's sitting at around $90. If Robinhood and the media didn't stop the momentum and start spreading fake news, it would have gone way higher. But when I first bought, I thought that reaching $100 would be its peak/best case scenario. If it drops under my dollar cost average I will buy more for the long term. Another "meme stock" that I think got unfairly dragged down with it is Blackberry (I do not believe in the other ones such as AMC or Nokia) - I bought some maybe a month ago and managed to make 200%+ in unrealized gains..now it dropped back to when I initially bought lol. I believe in the long term prospects of the company as well so I will keep holding for now..

So here are some photos from the modern art museum and our adventures around Rabat! I am really enjoying the city now.

We visited The English Bookshop (which is apparently the only all-English book shop in Morocco). I discovered this book before when I was searching for books set in Morocco..so was happy to find it there! The book shop is very cute. I want to go back to buy more books..even though it's not a good idea for my luggage. We didn't book our next destination yet but we now have an idea of where we want to go. If we do go, there will be a 2 week quarantine so I think I'll do lots of reading in that time heheh.

Also bought some new Adidas clothes..their new NASA collection is pretty cool!
